BAUXITE ORE
Bauxite ore production targets are based on alumina and liquid aluminum production targets.

Bauxite is a mixture of aluminum oxide and hydroxides with an hardness of 1-3 and a density of 2,5 – 3,5 gr/cm3. 90% of the metal aluminum production in the world is supplied from bauxite ore. In this respect, bauxite ore has an important place in world trade. Bauxite is a mixture of diasporite (Al2O3.H2O), böhmit [AlO(OH)], gibsite (hydrarjilit) [Al(OH)3] minerals and generally contains silica, iron oxides and TiO2.

Depending on the amount of iron in the composition, it can be yellow, brown and red, ranging from dirty-white to gray. There are two types of bauxite ores according to their formations. The first one is the decomposition of silica, alkaline and earth alkaline minerals in silicate rocks, and eventual separation from the water. Such bauxites are called silicate bauxites and they are found mostly in tropical climates. The second type of bauxite is calc-boksites. It is formed by the neutralization of aluminum-bearing acidic waters passing through the calcareous surfaces and the deposition of aluminum ions in the environment. Bauxite ores in France, Greece, Yugoslavia and Turkey were formed in this way.

Silica, iron, calcium and titanium minerals in bauxite are substances that reduce ore quality. The use of mineral is determined by the amount of minerals present. In the bauxite ore to be used in the aluminum industry, the Al2O3 content should be at least 50-55%. On the other hand, bauxites containing excess 3-5% SiO2 are not regarded as aluminum ores. The chemical composition of the bauxite ore to be used in the construction of refractory brick must not exceed 5% SiO2, 20% Fe2O3 and 2.5% TiO2. The other use of bauxite is the cement industry. It is not desirable to exceed 8-9% of the amount of SiO2 in the composition.

The bauxite ore used in the production of aluminum and cement is produced from rich bauxite deposits in Muğla region. It is broken and sieved on demanded dimensions.
